ABOUT US

Born in a humble backyard shed, The Cave is the brainchild of Matt Rencher, a man who desired an escape from his intense work life and a more exhilarating way to connect with friends and family. As the vision began to take shape, Matt’s dad, Guy Rencher, soon joined to help launch their first public venture, bringing practical support and shared enthusiasm to the growing concept.

Matt’s vision for a “man-cave” expanded within his personal space, where racing simulators and virtual reality became the main source of leisure, connection, and exploration. The immersive environment he created quickly began attracting attention within the local community. What started as a personal retreat evolved into something far greater—a tech-entertainment experience that transcended genders and age groups, often described as a “man-cave on steroids.”

In 2018, fueled by a passion for sharing exciting experiences with others, The Cave launched its first public VR and simulator studio in Tauranga, operating within a local trampoline park. The overwhelming positive response from the public drove rapid growth and expansion. Just a year later, in 2019, a custom-built studio was opened in Papamoa, featuring the latest VR technology and advanced racing simulators.

2021 marked a significant milestone for The Cave. The developers of The Landing in Taupō recognized the innovative VR concept and offered the opportunity to open another location. This expansion further cemented The Cave’s reputation as a leading provider of unique, immersive VR experiences in New Zealand.

In 2022, Palmerston North welcomed The Cave Palmy, the first-ever franchise of The Cave. This exciting step forward allowed the brand to bring its revolutionary entertainment platform, complete with pulse-pounding racing simulators and immersive VR, to even more communities across the country.

Today, The Cave continues to push the boundaries of entertainment, offering spaces where the thrill of racing simulators and the magic of virtual reality blur the line between the virtual and real worlds. Our mission is to deliver immersive, enriching, and unforgettable experiences to everyone, one community at a time. Join us on this journey and discover the limitless possibilities at The Cave.
